Full Reconstruction (post fire damage)

Lanskey Constructions were involved in the reconstruction of an absolute Melbourne Icon on the magnificent St Kilda foreshore Crown land precinct.

Fire destroyed the original 'beach-shack' styled facility back in January of 2014, three years later the new 'Stokehouse' has arisen from the ashes to boldly reclaim it's territory in a bigger and bolder design whilst still being sympathetic to it's immediate environment.

Lanskey were engaged by the Van Haandel Group to complete the base building works inclusive of the technically elaborate concrete and steel structure, cladding, tanking membranes, wall and parapet renders, mains services, a composite steel/foam and rubber membrane roofing system, operable sunshade framing and other associated works.

To add to this, the project had to meet the requirements of a Design and 'As-Built' 5-Star Green Star building, the first time a fully operational restaurant with three commercial kitchens had attempted to achieve such a feat.

Lanskey Constructions were honored to have worked with the Van Haandels in delivering such an iconic restaurant.

It is with great delight that we can now announce that the new Stokehouse Restaurant is complete and open for business. It has been a long and arduous journey since fire destroyed the old iconic and much loved heritage timber restaurant back in January of 2014. Insurance disputes, crown land council negotiations and just generally pushing the boundaries on cutting edge design have all taken time to resolve, but now the distinct vision of owner, Frank Van Haandle, has finally become a reality with the new bespoke facility once again enjoying wide community support for the variety of eateries and bars that the new Stokehouse restaurant now has on offer.

Of course, this milestone achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support and contribution of our construction partners. Of particular note is Lanskey Constructions who were engaged to construct the building shell of the new groundbreaking multi-level facility. This in itself involved considerable challenges, particularly in respect of the 860mm thick suspended and cantilevered second level concrete floor slab that appears to float above a breezeway due to a distinct absence of columns and support.

Lanskey's contract scope commenced at footing stage and included the subfloor structure, a suspended ground floor slab, insitu concrete walls and columns, precast concrete panels, insitu concrete stairs, a suspended ground level concrete roof slab (including membrane tanking), the formation of a breezeway void, a PT and steel reinforced second level cantilevered slab, further precast concrete wall and column elements, structural steel roof framing , a composite insulated foam core steel and membrane clad panel roof system, external super-sized window shutter stainless steel framing and general electrical and hydraulic services.

Lanskey conducted themselves in the spirit of true construction partners, providing preengagement advice on buildability issues, value engineering and program expediation. They worked closely with the design and client teams both during the design and the construction phases of the project, and were intimately involved in securing a 5-star Green Star accreditation for the project, a world standard achievement by any measure.
